Is it not a bit… well, odd to put so much passion and effort into making non-commercial music? You know those strange sounds that some oddballs consider to be their “art”? Will there ever be a cure for homemade electronic music?
Toxic Chicken is the main solo project of the insanely prolific but always inventive multimedia artist Kai Nobuko, who told us a little about the ups and downs of creating Mentally Sound:
This is a fun album, but it is also a bit dark at times. Until I had finished recording it, the music would be playing in my head non-stop. I couldn't sleep. It tormented me, yet also comforted me.
Artists who feel compelled to put themselves through such ordeals may rest assured that, one way or another, a cure for their creativity will one day arrive. In the meantime, we can be thankful for the eccentric and engaging sounds that result from their labours of lunacy. Enjoy Mentally Sound—it would be crazy not to!
Songs that trip and drip through the mind… Mentally Sound is indeed extremely sound but in the most magically unsound way.
Toxic Chicken has crafted an album of the likes I have not heard before. And it has been a delight, an experience, to listen to it and get a taste for Toxic Chicken’s art. This is emotion in sound.
